Hola amigas y amigos!
I am at the start of a whopping great ‘have at it’ month. February is my birthday month so I often feel more ready to galvanise in Feb rather than at the start of January – which is always a bit of a non starter right after weeks of indulgence over Christmas.
So this year I have taken a herd of bulls by their horns and I’m currently careening around our small house shouting Woah! And Yeehah! Enter a yoga challenge, a ‘give up sugar for Feb’ challenge (seriously hard) a new Bullet Journal habit… we’ll see how low that lasts – I’m already bewildered by the necessity of monthly, weekly and daily logs as well as to- do lists and all the other trackers, brain- dumps and what not…
I am resisting worrying about how lovely my BuJo is – and I’ve stopped looking at other people’s amazingly creative journals. Mine is 2 days old, scruffy and tiny. I made a rookie ordering online mistake – but I’m working with the difficulty and forcing myself to edit. Organisation is my watchword – imperfect is my BuJo style.
Which brings me to my main challenge – a pattern a day.
The idea is to unlock my fear of making mistakes or churning out rubbish work and to just get on with practicing and learning the two main applications I need to get skilled at in order to render my ideas more expertly.
Currently my ambition outstrips my skill.
So if you want to master anything you need to put in the hours.
Today I return d to Illustrator and made every mistake I could on he way to a very simple pattern. I love the motif, and I quite like some of the colours. I will definitely return to this motif to create a more complex repeat.
The second image is a digital manipulation of the original jpeg.
I couldn’t resist a bit of glitch work – it’s my current obsession.
Further down the line I will create repeats with the glitches I create.
Make mistakes with humour and don’t give up. Be determined to find solutions and work with the unexpected.
There is potential in every part of the process.
It’s early days but I’m hoping that by the end of February I will be bendier, thinner and a badass pattern ninja!
